User Review

Review Summary
URS Corporation uses Primavera P6.1 software in its everyday scheduling processes, primarily for summary type life cycle, daily and hourly schedules. It was the successor to P3, as the company wanted to upgrade to a newer version of Primavera scheduling software, noted J.J. Aucoin of URS.
"As a whole, by using this computer-aided scheduling software, we save the company a great deal of money in terms of reduced labor and material expenses as well as just making things run a little more smoothly.," Aucoin said of Primavera P6 software.
"Feature that I like in P6 are better WBS and structural visibility and great enterprise wide coding capabilities. I really like having my own secure holding place for storing personal layouts and filters," Aucoin added. "By having all stakeholders singing from the same sheet of music, we are able to better coordinate future work and utilize resources more efficiently."
Full Review
I have one and a half years of experience with Primavera P6 software and several years with Primavera P3.
EPC and Maintenance & Operations projects.
My company furnished the software.
We use Primavera P6 software in our everday scheduling processes, including summary type life cycles and daily and hourly schedules.
It was the successor to P3, and we wanted to upgrade to a newer version of Primavera scheduling software.
Somewhat. However, we found out that Primavera P6 software is a different animal when compared to P3. Data sharing or transfers between P3 and P6 can be difficult and sometimes next to impossible!
No other scheduling software really comes close.
We used Primavera P3. Before that, we used Microsoft Project.
About a dozen users.
Not much has changed because we have a nailed-down process and set procedures.
As a whole, by using computer-aided scheduling software such as this one, we save the company a bunch of money in terms of reduced labor and material expenses and just making things run a little more smoothly. By having all stakeholders singing from the same sheet of music, we are able to better coordinate future work and utilize resources more effeciently.
Better WBS (work breakdown structure) and structural visibility and great enterprise-wide code capabilities. I really like having my own holding place for layouts and filters.
I would fix known technical bugs and offer a really useful and intuitive reporting tool instead of the combursome report writer in Primavera P6 software.
Costing tools and the Web publishing feature. I found the Web publishing feature a bit weak/rigid and decided to pubish my schedules with other more capable Web software instead of the standard Web tool in P6.
Most anyone who needs this software already has it or knows about it!
Users need at least average computer skills and knowledge of how computer data files function. This is not your normal intuitive Microsoft type of software. It would be difficult to just walk up and begin using this scheduling software without prior training.
It took years of being in the industry and constantly using scheduling software tools. For someone who has never used a computer before....it would be a stretch. For starters, a new user should take some of the training courses available and have a basic understanding of scheduling.
Many times over the years.
OK.
Sometimes I'm sorry to say so, but yes. There aren't many other options out there. Most companies/users are faced with either keeping up with the latest version of Primavera or risk being left behind in the technological dust.
7.5.
