HeadsUp Technologies delivers its residential and commercial construction software over the Internet. This, the Overland Park, Kansas-based vendor said, lets customers avoid the frequent requirement of some boxed applications for additional servers or workstations.
This Web-based project management software also features construction estimating, bidding, construction scheduling, document management, field data capture, and financial information capabilities, all of which appear in a single integrated system designed to eliminate builders' needs for multiple applications during a project's life cycle, the vendor said. The system's user interface is enhanced by a technology known as Ajax (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML). Finally, the vendor recommended builders use, at a minimum, Microsoft Windows XP and Internet Explorer 6.0.
HeadsUp Commercial features a full, Microsoft Word-based documentation system that offers search functionality and can be linked to specific tasks. It also offers Critical Path Scheduling for up-to-date task reviews by supervisors and work crews and a margin manager that looks at variances from planned margin and notifies management of any differences. The flexible system can start small and grow to meet an unlimited number of users as needed, according to HeadsUp.
HeadsUp Residential was designed to capture deliveries at the building site and automatically create payables in the firm's office accounting system; it automatically updates and reports task status in the field. Using this Web-based project management software, the project manager can take digital photographs to attach to daily reports and easily know which crews are scheduled to be on-site on a given day, according to the vendor. To reduce expenses, meanwhile, the application can produce resource allocation reports to identify available resources that can be used for another job; it may also send and monitor the acceptance of purchase orders and subcontracts, the vendor said.
With HeadsUP PDA, users can access the Web-based project management software via a personal digital assistant (PDA). Updates, which the company says occur six or seven times a year, are done automatically, due to the application's Web-based structure.
For back-office integration, HeadsUp interfaces with job cost accounting software programs such as Sage Timberline Office, Sage Master Builder and Contractor Anywhere.
