JONAS CONTRACTOR ACCOUNTING SOFTWARE OVERVIEW

Delivering on its stated goal of creating a fully integrated, single-source solution for construction professional's technology needs, Jonas Software offers customizable contractor accounting software that features 19 accounting modules and 23 construction project management modules. The Richmond Hill, Ontario-based vendor says its solutions are used by more than 1,000 general contractors, subcontractors, plumbers, HVACR, mechanical and electrical contractors across North America.

The Job Cost accounting module features a user-defined structure for coding unlimited job information -- job number, phases and types -- while Progress Billing handles general user-defined formats for certificate forms and styles, including the American Institute of Architects (AIA) standard. Standard Progress Billing tracks contract price by job items (phase) and progress-to-date in dollars, percentage, or units, with stored materials tracked separately, according to Jonas Software.

Change Order Management controls all field changes, price requests, quotations, revisions, and change order processes, with automatic updates throughout the system following approval, according to the vendor.

Subcontractor Control tracks subcontracts by job, vendor, and subcontract number. It also records the description of work and holdback percentage and the automatic release of holdback in detail or summary, the vendor said.

The Equipment Management module tracks and reports the profitability of each equipment unit. This contractor accounting software posts costs via payroll, accounts payable, service work order, job costing, general ledger and, ultimately, the Equipment module.

Procurement creates requisitions that automatically flow into purchase orders once the job is awarded and tracks the status of requisitions, the vendor said.

The Purchase Order component posts commitment to the job, inventory and equipment unit with multi-allocations feature, while retaining financial period integrity, according to Jonas.

Inventory features a single-entry format designed to relieve inventory and updates job, service item, or equipment files with parts, assemblies, or materials.

Lastly, the Homebuilder module, designed for residential construction professionals, handles complexities associated with tracking trades and billings for multi-lot projects, the vendor said.
