Rather than manually creating AIA billings or using piecemeal solutions comprised of generic software applications, contractors can save time, improve accuracy and speed payment time by using specialized AIA billing software.
Sunburst Software Solutions Inc.'s Construction Application for Payment Solution (CAPS) is AIA billing software that is designed to work with Intuit's popular QuickBooks software. CAPS lets contractors create Percentage of Completion contract billings on the AIA G-702 Contractor Application for Payment, as well as G-703 Continuation Sheet; G-702 CMa Construction Managers and Advisors documents and similar plain-paper forms, according to Sunburst Software. The vendor created a program that uses data from QuickBooks Estimate and Progress Invoices to meet these billing needs.
Since the required data already exists within a contractor's QuickBooks' set up, time can be wasted and errors may be introduced if this information must be manually transferred or sent to a third-party services provider that, for a fee, will take care of a contractor's AIA billing. CAPS holds additional project information not stored within QuickBooks -- data such as architect information, retainage methods and billing forms, according to Sunburst Software. At billing time, all required information is pulled from both repositories to generate the invoice which then is signed, notarized and submitted.
CAPS can be installed on multiple PCs via online download. Pricing starts at $195 for a company license for this AIA billing software.

You can do your progress billings in QuickBooks if you entered an estimate and if you turn on progress invoicing with the contractor version (of course you will be using items). No software that I know of will print the AIA document because it is copyrighted. Many will print a "fill in" form though. The difference in many (not all I'm sure) between AIA and progress is that AIA allows retention per line and progress allows retention on the total invoice amount. I use such software at my payday advance lenders website.
