Meridian Systems
Company Overview
Meridian Systems offers software for building owners, construction firms and public agencies aiming to streamline the plan-build-operate project lifecycle and in turn reduce construction costs, schedules and project risk. One key tool in its arsenal is Prolog, which provides construction project management controls for medium- and large-sized AEC organizations, including general contractors, architects, engineering firms and public and private owners and operators.

Meridian Prolog was designed to manage project collaboration workflow and perform construction project management tasks, allowing teams to speed up projects with better collaboration and standardized project data, according to the Folsom, California-based vendor. Users can manage multiple projects in one Microsoft SQL Server database and generate summary reports and queries across all projects for view by the appropriate executives -- allowing them to make decisions based on accurate, current data, the vendor said.
In addition, users can audit projects for deficiencies and potential risk and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to better monitor profitability, efficiency and performance. A streamlined review process improves document control, since it features tracked revisions and stored master files, including emails, the vendor said.
Meridian Prolog is available either as a hosted solution or as a managed service. The software has additional available modules, including the following:
- Prolog Manager provides complete construction project management control by automating all aspects of the construction lifecycle, from project design to close out.
- Meridian Systems' Prolog Connect is a Web services platform extension for Prolog Manager. Through the use of XML, the Extensible Markup Language, Prolog Connect lets remote users access Prolog data through a secure connection. The use of XML means subcontractors, superintendents and other users can work in Microsoft Excel or other Office Business Applications, or OBAs, and exchange that data with prolog.
- To enhance communication, there is Prolog Website, a Web-based project management software application designed for extended project teams. This module complements Prolog Manager, the vendor said.
- Finally, Crystal Reports XI for Prolog is an enhanced reporting solution from Meridian Systems that allows construction organizations to get the most out of Prolog reports by leveraging enhanced capabilities of Business Objects' Crystal Reports XI (version 11).
In June 2008 the company unveiled Meridian Prolog 2008. New features include a refreshed user interface and enhancements to its project communication and collaboration functionality.
Meridian Systems' Proliance Infrastructure Lifecycle Management (ILM) application allows infrastructure-intensive organizations to optimize the Plan-Build-Operate project lifecycle for complicated capital projects, construction and real estate programs, as well as extensive facility portfolios, according to the vendor. The enterprise-class software manages all capital projects, programs and facilities on one system.
As a Web-based program, Proliance delivers improved coordination between corporate goals and the real estate and facility groups that act on and meet these targets. Since all data is contained within a single system, it eliminates multiple point solutions, thereby reducing IT and training costs, and it improves time-to-market for new products and services, the vendor noted.
Proliance consists of several integrated modules.
- Project Portfolio Management, which is mainly used during the planning and building phase, lets users manage a project's scope, schedules, budgets and contracts.
- Facility Management helps users operate and manage physical assets, maintenance management and service request items.
- The Business Intelligence module gives senior executives and authorized managers visibility into an organization's entire portfolio of projects, programs and facilities using key performance indicators, dashboards and roll-up reporting, according to Meridian.
- For its part, the Business Process Management component lets businesses create, enforce and automate best practices and processes enterprise-wide.
