The company, a unit of Explorer Group, developed the Explorer Enterprise Solution for Construction and Explorer Contract Management. The Enterprise Solution is a construction project management and accounting software system that integrates automated processes, wireless data and the Internet. Contract Management, meanwhile, features one-time data entry and unit-price daily job costing.

These two solutions consist of 10 components (listed below in bold), which contain, in all, 46 financial and construction modules. This software is designed for specialized construction fields such as electrical, general construction, heavy highway, large residential, mechanical, HVAC, roofing and utilities.

• The construction accounting software module covers the gamut of finance-related tasks -- general ledger, cash management (including multiple currencies), business partners, accounts payable and receivable, inventory, payroll, job costing, estimating, and time and billing.
• The computerized maintenance management system module tracks all equipment operations, treating each one as its own profit or loss center, the vendor said. Features include equipment control, service management, work orders and a visual maintenance checklist.
• The project management component handles project, change order and document management.
• Materials handling addresses scale and plant management as well as inventory management, the vendor said.
• Explorer Software provides two flagship products for document management. Document Manager is an add-on module to the Explorer Contract Manager software, while ezDocs is integrated into Pivot and can also run with many other construction accounting software packages.
• Explorer's human resources module was designed to enable organizations to set measurable benchmarks to acquire, train and retain the best employees in even the most competitive hiring environment.
• The Explorer Web Portal is a digital dashboard that gives executives up-to-date information on all aspects of a company's business, from high-level to drilled-down data, the vendor said.
• The vendor designed four Quality Management System (QMS) modules for government agencies and contractors who need specialized highway and bridge maintenance software. These modules integrate with Explorer Enterprise Solution heavy construction accounting asoftware and are built around International Standards Organization (ISO) 9001-2000 conformance requirements.
• Field workers can access and provide data using Explorer's Field Capture Data module, which transmits data to the applicable Contract Manager module for review and update. This application includes a daily job log, web crew cards and Explorer PayEdit for correcting timesheet information before it hits payroll.
• Lastly, the Wireless Explorer Software module keeps field workers in touch via cell phone or BlackBerry using either Explorer Maestro for cell phones or Explorer Communiqué for BlackBerry. Users can gather data from remote job locations, check equipment status and receive Internet and intranet information, the vendor said.

Explorer's construction accounting software applications are available for purchase and use on a company's in-house server or online, using the vendor's ASP hosted solution.
