New features for Visual Bookkeeper and JobView 9.0

A-Systems Corp.'s JobView and Visual Bookkeeper are now available in Version 9.0. There are not a lot of major changes to the software -- JobView debuted in 1978 and has gone through three updates a year since then -- but there are a few new Web 2.0 features of interest.

The two programs are actually the same. The only difference is that JobView includes job costing features that Visual Bookkeeper does not. Standard features of both programs include inventory, electronic data import, cash management, general ledger, payroll and purchase orders features.

Some especially interesting features are what A-Systems call guardrails and safety nets, which prevent users from making mistakes. For instance, Visual Bookkeeper does automatic daily backups. It will also check for mistakes such as repeated invoice numbers or dates entered outside the chosen fiscal period.

These packages also include a feature that can be especially useful in the current economy. In one of our recent blogs, Surviving the economic downturn, we emphasized the importance of planning ahead. A-Systems has made it possible to do just that by giving users the ability to create “What if” scenarios. Projections and modeling can be done for 12, 24 and 36 months.

Version 9.0 mostly expands upon the standard features of JobView and Visual Bookkeeper. For instance, any screen displaying an address now also has a Map Button that provides driving directions or a Google Maps image of the location. There is also a new Deduction History report, which can total all 401(k) contributions for the year for all employees.

A-Systems has also added “wizards,” which are available to help new users learn to use particular features. They can also be useful to experienced users as a way to keep track of where they were in their work if they need to leave it, the vendor said.

Another notable development is A-Systems’ partnership with FirstRuleGroup.com, which will host Visual Bookkeeper and JobView on its secure server farm, This makes the A-Systems programs accessible over the internet.

Visual Bookkeeper is available in Small Builder Advantage (SBA) or Preferred versions. JobView has an additional mid-level version called Standard. A comparison of the three JobView versions is available on the A-Systems website.Any company using Visual Bookkeeper who wants to change to JobView can do so with a simple email or phone call to A-Systems.
